Courses and Awards
Bronze/SRC Course
Rainbow Bay SLSC offers nationally accredited training to its members covering a range of awards and units of competency.
- Whether you wish to patrol our beautiful but sometimes hazardous beaches wearing the “Red & Yellow” uniform of our iconic lifesaving movement,
- Assist with the development of our future life savers with water safety duties.The following is a guide to the Pre-Requisites for the many courses available through Training & Education at Rainbow Bay SLSC.
Become a Lifesaver at Rainbow Bay SLSC
We are on the lookout for new members that have the ability to undertake a Bronze, SRC, Observers or First Aid Course or currently hold a Bronze, SRC, Observers or First Aid Award and would like to join our Patrol Teams. Absolutely anyone can join! You don’t even have to get your toes wet if you don’t want to. As long as you have a positive attitude, you’ve got what it takes.
Patrol Season Dates: Start Mid-September of each year to Early May the following year.

Other courses available to Rainbow Bay SLSC members;
IRB Crew Award
- Must be 15 years of age at date of assessment
- Current proficient holder of Bronze Medallion
Silver Medallion IRB Driver
- Must be 17 years of age at date of assessment
- Hold a proficient IRB Crew award
- Hold a QLD Marine Licence
Radio Officers Course
- Must be 13 years of age at date of assessment
- Note this course is currently under review.
Junior Age Managers Course
- Must be 16 years of age at date of assessment
- Must hold a current working with children’s blue card (if over 18 yrs)
- Recommended to complete the Observers award.
Observers Certificate
- Must be 15 years of age at date of assessment
- This award will allow members to patrol but not participate in rescue situations.
- Other awards available throughout the season are;
ATV/Tractor & 4WD Induction awards. These awards are conducted periodically throughout the season and as member interest is generated.
Silver Medallion Basic Beach Management
- Must be 17 years of age at date of assessment
- Hold or have held SLSA Bronze Medallion
- Be a current proficient holder of Radio Officer Certificate or Provide First Aid
Gold Medallion- Advanced Lifesaver
- Must be 17 years of age at date of assessment
- Hold a current proficient Bronze Medallion
- Hold SMBBM or Silver Medallion Patrol Captain award.
- Provide First Aid
- Advanced Resuscitation Techniques Certificate
- Complete an 800mtr swim in 14 minutes or less.
Training Officers Certificate
- Must be 16 years of age at date of assessment
- Must hold the award for the discipline you wish to train.
First AID/ ART/ CPR Courses
Provide First Aid(HLTAID011)
- Must be 14 years of age at date of assessment
- All members enrolled in this course must be active patrolling members or actively participating in a club role (ie Official, Age Manager etc).
Provide Advance Resuscitation (HLTAID007)
- Must be 15 years of age at date of Assessment
- Must already have attained the First Aid (HLTAID011)
